Every year, my craft space is dusted with glitter as I make holiday cards. I’m all about the shiny materials. If there’s bling, it sings. Glitter, rhinestones, foiled cardstock, transparencies … I go all out.
For this card, I used an acetate thicker than a regular transparency. It doesn’t have the gritty surface found on ink-jet transparencies. You typically can find 12-by-12-inch pieces of acetate at craft stores. To stamp on it, you’ll need either StazOn or Brilliance ink. I used Brilliance white ink here. This ink takes much longer to dry. I let it sit over night.
A downside to using acetate is static cling. Unfortunately, this card is a dust magnet (grab your microfiber cloth), but the effect is too pretty not to create it.
Here’s how to make it:
Cut a 5-by-10-inch piece of clear acetate (mine’s by The Paper Studio). Stamp several different, small snowflake images (I used stamps from the Season’s Greetings by Bella Road collection from Echo Park Paper Co., the Winter Wonderland collection by Fiskars and the snowflakes collection by Hero Arts) in Brilliance moonlight white ink in a random pattern on one side of the acetate. The stamped side will be the inside of the card.
Allow the ink to dry (this may take several hours). After the ink is dry, use a scoring blade to create the card’s fold. Stamp an image of a winter tree scene (such as winter trees by Hero Arts) in black ink (I used Versafine in onyx black) onto a piece of silver pearlescent cardstock (such as from the Colorbok pearlescent neutrals collection) that is at least 4-by-4 1/2 inches.
Trim this piece to the edges of the stamped image. Cut two 3 1/2-by4 1/8-inch pieces of black textured cardstock (I used Bazzill Basics cardstock in blackbird). Adhere the silver piece, centered, to this piece. Tie a thin, black satin ribbon horizontally around both pieces, close to the bottom.
Adhere this piece, centered, to the card’s front. Adhere the second piece of black cardstock, centered, to the inside of the card (this acts as an area for the sentiment or message).
beautifully done!!
Beautiful card!
What a pretty card!
