A simple way to create a card with visual interest is to craft one in an interesting shape. I thought outside of the box, but just a bit. I chopped off a corner of a square card.

That took the design in a different direction, with triangles and 45-degree angles. Getting the look was simple enough: I started with squares.

Here’s how to make it:

Make a card from a 5-by-10-inch piece of textured, light blue-green cardstock. Cut gray-and-off white, floral-patterned cardstock; citrine polka dot cardstock (both are from the Park Bench collection by Fancy Pants Designs) and light-teal, textured cardstock to 5 inches square. Cut each square diagonally through the center. Only one triangle from each square will be used.

Adhere blue-and-citrine patterned washi tape (I used one from Bluebell “Smile” from The Sweetest Thing collection by Jen Allyson for My Mind’s Eye) diagonally across the card’s front, from the upper-left corner to the lower-right corner, placed just left of the corners. Trim the edges. Adhere the floral-patterned triangle to the lower-left corner of the card’s front, lining it up with the edges.

Adhere citrine striped washi tape (“Bluebell Smile”) diagonally over the floral piece, about half an inch from the diagonal edge and over the card’s left and bottom edges. Trim the excess. Trim 1 inch from the light teal piece’s diagonal edge, and adhere it to the lower-left corner of the card’s front.

Adhere gray-and-white patterned washi tape (“Bluebell Smile”) diagonally over the light-teal piece, about half an inch from the diagonal edge and over the card’s left and bottom edges. Trim the excess. Trim 2 inches from the polka dot piece’s diagonal edge, and adhere it to the lower-left corner of the card’s front.

Stamp a vertical sentiment (I used “hello” from the Type collection by Hero Arts) in gray ink (such as Fresh Ink in slate) diagonally next to the blue-and-citrine washi, close to the card’s right edge.

Cut off the upper-right corner of the card at a 45-degree angle. Affix several citrine enamel dots of graduated sizes (“Bluebell Smile”) diagonally, in line with the sentiment.
