This summer, I’d been looking for a stamp of a soda bottle. Vintage-inspired products are popular, and when I saw five-and-dime themes, I thought I’d be able to find such a stamp. I didn’t have any luck, though, and I put it in the back of my mind until I saw the color challenge Two Peas in a Bucket cooked up for its online event that celebrated the Craft & Hobby Association‘s summer show. The colors were this:

This combo, from The Perfect Palette, asks, “(W)hat’s not to love about how these shades of yellow are playing off these shades of teal and gray?” Indeed. I thought of glass-bottle green, and again of having a soda-bottle stamp. Well, if I couldn’t find a stamp (digital or otherwise), I was certain to find clip art.

And so I did. It was solid black, and I wanted gray with a dark-gray outline on a bottle-green background. A bit of time in Adobe Illustrator, and I had the soda bottle the way I wanted it.

The shades of yellow made me think of lemons. My trusty Slice helped me with that. I added glitter cardstock, sparkly embellishments and a touch of white pen to my creation. I threw in a toothpick with a pennant, and my sweet concept was complete. This card didn’t win, but I really enjoyed crafting it for my first color-combo challenge.

Here’s how to make it:

Make a card from a 9-by-6 1/4-inch piece of teal textured cardstock. Cut a 4-by-5 3/4-inch piece of striped silver-glitter cardstock (such as Pow! glitter paper by American Crafts). Using a corner rounder, round all corners and adhere, centered, to the card’s front.

Print a soda-bottle image (clip art available here) that is 1-by-3 3/8 inches on textured cardstock (because I created my background color on the computer, I printed on white textured cardstock), and trim it to 1 1/2-by-3 7/8 inches. Round the corners on the top left and bottom right.

Create die cuts of a 2-inch circle with a decorative edge (I used my Making Memories Slice Elite and “Vintage Findings” design card) in light-yellow cardstock and the circle’s shadow in medium-yellow cardstock. Adhere the light-yellow piece, centered, to its shadow. Adhere a 2 1/2-inch “sweet” die cut (I used my Slice and the “Je t’adore” design card’s “sweet heart” die-cut, trimmed) in teal glitter cardstock (I used one from the Street Lace collection by Die Cuts With a View), centered, to the light-yellow piece. Cut a pennant shape from a 1-inch piece of teal cardstock. Using white pen, write “SUPER” in letters of graduated sizes on the pennant. Adhere this piece to the end of a toothpick. Tie a piece of white embroidery thread underneath the pennant.

Using dimensional adhesive, adhere the “sweet” circle half an inch from the bottom of the card and 3/4 of an inch from the card’s left edge. Use more dimensional adhesive to affix the bottle piece about 3/4 of an inch from the top and right edges of the card. Slide a paper clip where these pieces meet. Place glue on the end of the pennant’s toothpick and affix underneath the “sweet” piece, at the top and at an angle.

Affix five clear rhinestone stickers of various sizes (my large one is a Twinkle Goosebump by Queen & Co.) to appear as “bubbles” coming out of the bottle (I used dimensional adhesive on the rhinestones attached to the silver glitter paper). Accent the bottle image with white pen, if desired.
