Cut for the happy couple

When I create a card for a wedding, I take cues from the invitation, drawing from the color scheme and style.

I crafted the card below to congratulate the bride and groom, two friends of mine who had a beautiful ceremony and reception in Sycamore, Ill. The card follows their invitation’s modern, clean look in citrine and light gray. I added white and metallic dark gray to compliment the colors and used different textures of cardstock and dimensional adhesive to add depth. If you have a die-cut machine, a card such as this is very easy to make. No stamping or embellishments; just great, simple design.

Here’s how to make it:

Using a piece of cardstock (any kind will do), cut a 3 1/2-inch-wide die-cut of a scroll with a heart (I used my Making Memories Slice Elite and “Je t’adore” design card).

Use this piece as a guide to determine where to cut a second scroll out of a 5 1/4-inch-wide piece of light-gray textured cardstock (such as Coredinations canvas texture cardstock in mystic gray). I positioned my scroll in the lower-right area.

After the die-cut is made, trim this piece to 5 1/4 inches square. My piece, when trimmed, had about a 1-inch margin between the die-cut and the right and bottom edges.

Cut a 3 1/2-inch-wide die-cut of the scroll’s shadow in medium-gray, metallic textured cardstock (I used Die Cuts With a View’s The Metallic Stack gunmetal cardstock).

After the cut has been made, position this piece over the light-gray piece so that the die-cuts look evenly spaced.

Once the pieces are positioned properly, turn them over together. Trace the outer edges of the light-gray piece onto the back of the metallic paper. Trim the metallic paper using the trace lines as a guide. The piece should be 5 1/4 inches square. Trim half an inch from each edge of this piece, so that the final size is 4 3/4 inches square. Make a card from a 5 1/2-by-11-inch piece of citrine textured cardstock (such as Coredinations canvas texture cardstock in high noon). Adhere the light-gray piece, centered, to the card’s front. Using dimensional adhesive, adhere the metallic-gray piece over the light-gray piece.

Create a 3-inch-wide die-cut of “Love” (I used my Slice and “Remember This” design card) out of scroll-embossed white cardstock.

Adhere this die-cut to the lower-left corner of the metallic-gray piece, close to the left edge and hanging over the bottom edge.

  1. Such a stunning and simple card! I have the Cameo and love being able to create cards like this. Love how you played off of the invitations theme. Makes it that much more special. 🙂
